The King Soopers on Table Mesa Drive in Boulder will reopen Feb. 9.
The store, the site of the March 22 mass shooting, was originally supposed to open Jan. 20. However, grocery store officials postponed that date due to the employee strike that was ongoing on that time. United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7 members on Monday voted to approve a new three-year contract with King Soopers, ending the strike that began Jan. 12.
“We look forward to coming together with our associates and the community to unite on this next chapter,” King Soopers president Joe Kelley stated in a news release. “We know that restoring this location is a very important step in our healing journey and that it signifies a tremendous milestone for all of us.”
King Soopers has previously said about 50% of its employees who worked at the Table Mesa store at the time of the shooting intend to return to work there.
The south Boulder store has been closed since March, when a gunman entered the store and killed 10 people, including three employees. The store has been under reconstruction since then.
The redesign includes changes to both the interior and exterior of the building as well as a parking lot redesign.
The company accepted feedback on the redesign from employees and community members. That feedback was meant to be incorporated into the updated design, though officials have yet to share specifics on how or whether that input was used.
When the Table Mesa King Soopers reopens Feb. 9, the company will host a ceremony at 9 am to “remember the lives that will never be forgotten and embrace the strength and resilience of the community,” the release states.
The store will open immediately following that event.
