Tarasenko’s 5-point outing fuels Blues’ 6-2 win over Sabers

Buffalo, NY ( Associated Press) — Vladimir Tarasenko scored three times as part of a career-best five-point outing as the St. Louis Blues registered their seventh straight win as the Buffalo Sabers beat the Buffalo Sabers 6-2 on Thursday night.

Robert Thomas made five assists to extend his point streak to 11 games, during which he has six goals and 23 points. Pavel Buchnevich, Brandon Saad, and David Perron also scored for the Blues, whose bounce saw them battle the Minnesota Wild for second place in the Central Division standings, and a home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

Credit Tarasenko, who scored twice in the second period and added a blank-netter to fuel a Blues boom in which he has now scored game-winning goals in three straight outings to deliver a career-best nine of the season.

Jordan Binnington intercepted 35 shots for his second straight win after four consecutive losses.

The Blues’ winning streak is the longest since the 8-0 run from February 18 to March 3, 2020, and they improved to 9-0-1 in their last 10.

Alex Tuch and Rasmus Asplund scored, and Craig Anderson blocked 22 shots for Buffalo. Defenseman Owen Powers set a target for Touch to sign with Saber after leaving Michigan in his second career game for the 2021 No. 1 draft pick.

Tarasenko schooled Power on each of his first two goals and scored 5:27 to top the Blues 4-2.

Power overcommitted in an attempt to check Thomas on the end boards, leaving Tarasenko open in the lower right circle, from where he converted 7:18 in the second period near Buchanevich.

In his next goal, Tarasenko was at top speed on the right wing and eventually turned Power inside out, turning around the defender to score on a breakaway. Tarasenko was coming off two goals in Tuesday’s 4-2 win at Boston and now has seven goals and 13 points in his last four.

Buffalo, already out in the run for the playoffs, fell 2-5 in their last seven.
