Police said a 16-year-old boy, identified as a cyclist, had assaulted women at Rohnert Park earlier this week.
The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety said the boy, whose name has not been released because of his age, was arrested Friday on suspicion of sexual battery and indecent exposure.
He is accused of exposing himself Monday morning to a Sonoma State University employee on Copeland Creek Path near Snyder Lane.
Police said the victim was on her way to work when the suspect followed her on his mountain bike while her genitals were exposed.
He hit her with an unspecified object she was carrying and she fled. Officials responded to the scene but could not locate the cyclist.
Investigators determined that there were two incidents on Saturday and Sunday involving a cyclist on the Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit bike path between Southwest Boulevard and the Rohnert Park Expressway.
Two victims reported that they were approached by someone on a bicycle, who slapped them on their butt before driving away.
Kotati police were interviewing the suspect on Monday for an unrelated call to his home, when they learned that he matched the cyclist’s description, issued earlier that day.
Kotati and Rohnert Park police investigated. The officials want that anyone who has had such an encounter should come to the fore.
