BERLIN ( Associated Press) — Two teenagers helped Borussia Dortmund beat Freiburg 3-1 in the Bundesliga on Friday with a late goal.
An arranged substitution by Dortmund manager Edin Terzik paid dividends in the 77th minute with 18-year-old Jamie Bayno-Gittens’ equalizer and 17-year-old Yusufa Moukoko scoring 2-1. , four minutes before assisting another player Marius Wolf who came in as a substitute, to close the result to 88.
It was the first time that three different players who came in as substitutes had scored for Dortmund in a Bundesliga match.
French striker Anthony Modest made his Dortmund debut on Monday after leaving Cologne, and defender Nico Schlotterbeck quickly returned to his former team.
But the visiting team needed a stroke of luck as it was a rare mistake by Freiburg goalkeeper Mark Flecken that allowed Dortmund to make a comeback after giving the home team the lead in the 35th minute.
Dortmund struggled to get past Freiburg’s relentless defense until Bayno-Gittens allowed a shot from far away and Flecken let the ball into the goal with his fingers.
This was Bayno-Gittens’ first goal in five Bundesliga appearances. But he had not finished his work.
Bayno-Gittens overtook the Freiburg defense and installed Julian Brandt, another replacement, who returned the ball to Maukoko to score in the 84th.
Maukoko again engages in the play by which Wolf seals victory.
