“We are starting a new period and in the new period there must be changes,” he announced a few weeks ago, without revealing anything, Alberto Núñez Feijóo. The leader of PP He enthusiastically designed a new organizational chart of party power to focus the work of the opposition in an increasingly chaotic legislature. These changes will be known immediately, once Pedro Sánchez reveals the composition of the new Council of Ministers. What is clear is that they have a great impact on hard core of Genoa and the triangle they make Cuca Gamarra (general secretary), Elias Bendodo (general coordinator) and Miguel Tellado (Deputy Secretary of the Organization). The plan is for Gamarra to run as head of the list in next year’s European elections and for Tellado, Feijóo’s most trusted man, to replace him as PP’s number two. Bendodo, on his part, will assume the position of Vice Secretary of Autonomous and Local Policy. His duties as coordinator will also be carried out by Tellado.
Feijóo preferred to wait for the investiture and the formation of the Government to finalize his organizational chart. The PP is approaching a decisive stage where it must mount a strong opposition and prepare in the next election cycle. The duration of the legislature is unknown, given the apparent weakness of Sánchez’s alliances with his separatist and pro-ETA colleagues.
The main issue for Feijóo is to solve, precisely, the type of tricephalus in the power of Genoa between the General Secretariat, the general coordinator and the Vice Secretary of the Organization. A distribution that some leaders consider ineffective for this new stage, where the entire party must be well-oiled and have a univocal path of direction. The most questioned position is that of the general coordinator, because some voices see it as more appropriate in the case of management than when using the opposition.
In practice, Tellado assumed a role closest to the leader of the PP in coordination tasks, which Feijóo greatly appreciated. After the foregoing march from Gamarra to Brussels, will further strengthen that duty from the General Secretariat. One of the most pronounced debates within the PP is, precisely, whether Gamarra should continue to combine his functions as Genoa’s number two and parliamentary spokesman. An improvised double after Feijóo’s sudden arrival in Genoa but some thought it was no longer effective. To gain the voice of the Congress, the best position is Carmen Funeznow Deputy Secretary of Social Policies.
Tellado, Feijóo’s right hand
Miguel Tellado is one of the people closest to the PP president, with whom he has worked for many years in the Xunta de Galicia. In 2016, he became part of the narrowest circle of the leader popular as general secretary of the Galician party and since then the two have strengthened their personal and political bond. Feijóo especially appreciates his ability to keep the party organized in different territories and to intervene in some of the most dangerous moments, as happened this summer in relations with Vox.
“He is the silent commissioner of the national president in the territories,” is how OKDIARIO collaborator and political analyst Graciano Palomo describes him. «He is not a person who likes to appear in the media; “He knows what his job is and what the boss is asking him to do,” said colleagues in the Management Committee. His work was appreciated in the shadows and he gained internal respect in just a few months. Tellado is the third end of the Galician nucleus, which is the heart of Génova, and which he composed with Marta Varela, head of the cabinet and Mar Sánchez Sierra, the most trusted person in Feijóo.
