It’s now clear that Netflix subscribers won’t feel the impact of the writers’ and actors’ strike in 2023. Netflix has stocked up on enough original movies and TV series to keep the content flowing for months to come. That seems unlikely to be the case in 2024, although Netflix is expected to have a very strong slate of movies this year.
This is the time of year when Netflix not only ramps up its film production but also targets awards season with some films that could land Netflix one of the few awards it has never won: the Oscar for Best Picture. Of course, there are also some blockbuster films and exciting thrillers that should captivate subscribers. As the last few months of the year begin, keep an eye out for the five most anticipated Netflix movies coming through the end of 2023.
The Killer (November 10)
In the past decade, David Fincher has directed only three films: Ex Girlfriend, Shortage, and the upcoming action thriller, The Killer. This film is based on a series of French graphic novels by Alexis Nolent and artist Luc Jacamon, although not well known in the United States. That could soon change, as Michael Fassbender stars in the film as Christian, the eponymous assassin.
Story details are scarce at this time, but the cast includes Tilda Swinton, Charles Parnell, Arliss Howard, Sophie Charlotte, Sala Baker, Kerry O’Malley, Emiliano Pernía, and Gabriel Polanco. This is possibly the biggest action movie on Netflix to date Extraction 2 J Heart of Stone. And with Fincher at the helm, we’re expecting great things.

Leave the World Behind (December 8)
Compared to some of the upcoming Netflix movies Leave the World Behind can go unnoticed. But you can’t ignore a cast that includes Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, Ethan Hawke, Myha’la Herrold, Farrah Mackenzie, Charlie Evans, and Kevin Bacon. Based on the novel of the same name by Rumaan Alam, the film follows a couple, Amanda (Roberts) and Clay (Hawke), who vacation in an Airbnb with their children Archie (Charlie Evans) and Rosie (Farrah Mackenzie).
The family is shocked when Airbnb owners George (Ali) and Ruth Washington (Herrold) arrive and tell them that a power outage appears to have left the power and all communications equipment gone. To their horror, the two families realize that this is not an isolated case and that the modern world they knew may never return.

Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget (December 15)

In 2000, Chicken Race was an unexpected cartoon hit. Due to the film’s continued popularity, Netflix launched a sequel. Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget. Like the original movie, Dawn of the Nugget is a stop-motion animated film that takes place shortly after the first film. Rocky Rhodes (Zachary Levi) and his wife Ginger (Thandiwe Newton) led their chicken and rooster comrades to freedom, and now they have a daughter named Molly (voiced by the star). In the new film, the herd believes they have found the perfect place to spend their lives without the risk of being trapped and eaten by humans. Unfortunately, an imminent threat looms that puts everything they have built in jeopardy. And if Ginger and Rocky want to protect their loved ones, they may need to break into a human estate to neutralize the threat.

Master (December 20)
Netflix starts the race for the Oscars 2023 maestro, a new biopic directed by Bradley Cooper, in which he plays famed composer Leonard Bernstein. The film explores Leonard’s relationship with his wife, Felicia Montealegre, played by Carey Mulligan. Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg are executive producers on the film alongside Cooper, and a very impressive cast has been assembled including Matt Bomer, Maya Hawke, Sarah Silverman, Michael Urie, Gideon Glick, Sam Nivola, Miriam Shor, and Alexa. swinton
maestro If you want to see it on the big screen, there will be a limited theatrical release on November 22nd. This is mainly to ensure the Oscar eligibility of the film. If you can wait a month, it’s coming to Netflix just in time for Christmas.

Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire (December 22)

Snyder assembled a cast that includes Djimon Hounsou, Charlie Hunnam, Michiel Huisman, Staz Nair, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Cleopatra Coleman, E. Duffy, Anthony Hopkins, Jena Malone, Ed Skrein, and Fra Fee. This will be the big Netflix movie of December, although keep in mind that the bottom line: Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scar Makerit will not arrive until April 19, 2024.
