HOW MANY 50 DOLLAR BILLS ARE IN CIRCULATION?
The Treasury Department is printing a total of 756,096,000 $50 bills by 2022, a record number in more than four decades totaling $37.8 billion. In 2018, 364.8 billion were ordered to be printed.
The CNN network explained at the time that this was due to the demand for physical tickets created by the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.
Total $50 bills in circulation totaled $124.2 billion in 2022, or 5.4% of the $2.26 trillion in banknotes in circulation (the majority, $1.8 trillion, in $100 bills) in 2022.
