If you have a blue DNI and you still do not dare to get an electronic DNI, you should know this. The National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec) reports a new campaign in which it offers this document for only S/30 in the promotion; its real price is S/41. In this way, the citizens of Peru will benefit from the aforementioned program.
The Republic spoke to Carmen Velarde, national head of Reniec, who detailed the benefits of obtaining an electronic DNI as well as the widespread use of this Peruvian ID.
How do I get my electronic ID in S/30 only?
On this occasion, those who want to change their blue DNI to an electronic one should go to one of the 114 offices in Reniec where this document is printed. Previously, you had to pay S/30 at the Banco de la Nación, through its office, or on the Pagano.pe website or application for concept 02121, ‘DNI Renewal’. This method can be used to manage your first DNIe in the case that you make corrections to images and data, change the yellow ID to adults (from 17 years old), or change the yellow to adults (18 years old).

“Our campaign is for 500,000 days in the amount of S/30. We will continue to evaluate, as this allows us to learn about any process problems or inconveniences that we need to correct and also how the citizen receives them so that we can provide a better process until our four big printers start working and we have only one identity document, and this is the electronic DNI,” said Velarde Koechlin for La República.
What are the advantages of having a DNIe?
The Reniec representative announced the main benefits of having this card. “I want to thank the citizens because the DNIe is well received. It is a more secure document that allows citizens of legal age to sign digitally, and the DNI of children has the guardian’s fingerprint on the chip.” In the same way, this ID gives you greater security and the possibility to perform online methods as well as electronic voting.
How is the electronic DNI issued in Peru?
In the words of the official, currently, there are more than 4 and a half million Peruvians with an electronic DNI, a number that is growing to 5 million. “We are getting four more big printers that we expect to arrive at the end of December to start installing them in the country. and let us do that with the millions of DNI that Reniec gives every year to electronics,” he added.
On the other hand, he added that these printers help in the massification process of the aforementioned documents. “When the four big printers arrive, we have to finish the delivery to the printing center, implement it (…), do all the tests on the systems because there is software that connects the printer to our system, and see that it all works. Well, give it to the security measures. And the process of the extraordinary massification of electronic ID, and thank you for blue ID and the yellow DNI,” he pointed out.
