The binational operation against arms trafficking

The state of Veracruz was the scene of an undercover operation in which US officials from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the Secretary of Marina, and the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic participated. The reason? Dismantle the business of illicit trafficking in weapons confirmed by federal authorities in La Silla Riota.

This is an operation similar to the one called Fast and Furious, in which, in 2009, the government of the United States of America illegally sold more than 2,000 high-caliber weapons to Mexico to detect links between arms dealers and drug trafficking groups.

The 2009 operation failed because the American authorities lost control of the weapons even though they had tracking chips to find them in Mexico. Most of the weapons were obtained in the hands of organized crime, which is believed to have happened with the consent of the federal authorities during the government of Felipe Calderon Hinojosa.

These logistics were taken and improved in the state of Veracruz not more than two weeks ago, as the sources involved in these processes confessed. Through a coordinated operation, the authorities delivered weapons to members of a criminal organization based in the north of the entity. When asked about this, the delegation of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) refused to comment.

According to its geolocation as a heavy caliber weapon, the arsenal was transferred from the north of Veracruz to Central America. It was later reinserted into the Morenista-run entity, Cuitláhuac Garca Jiménez. Because of that operation, a man was arrested in the south of Veracruz and was immediately transferred by air to the United States, where he has a criminal history.

The latest gun security event in Veracruz It was registered in Puerto Jarocho on Wednesday, August 30. After the arrest of Verjel Vázquez, mayor of the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD), a period of 48 hours has passed for FGR to decide if there are elements to put him in the hands of a federal judge, and that authority will in turn determine whether or not to legalize his imprisonment and finally link him to the proceedings.

However, on Saturday, September 2, at 10:36 p.m., Miguel Verjel Mendoza He confirmed his release on his Facebook account. Even the governor, Cuitlahuac Garcia, He pointed out that the alleged members of organized crime were arrested along with the mayor, but they were all released.

The north of Veracruz recorded the highest level of violence in the state of Veracruz; the municipality of Picture of Rica, with 26 murders, ranked as the district with the most crimes of this type in the first half of 2023. This is without counting the 13 frozen bodies that were found in two safe houses on August 13.
