The Superior Council of the Administrative Corporation of the Judiciary in an extraordinary session held on September 13, 2023, reviewed the 2024 budget project and expressed concern about the lack of resources for the development of projects that are important to implement , which compromises normal operation. of this State Power.
The president(s) of the Supreme Court and the director of the Administrative Corporation of the Judiciary, informed this higher entity that on Friday the 8th, in a meeting held with the Minister of Finance, Mario Marcel, they received the budget project corresponding to the item 03 of the Judicial Branch, which presents a monetary update of 3.2%.
This budget, according to the minimum required to operate, is not sufficient to cover the operational requirements of this State Branch, considering, among other aspects, that the contracts with various suppliers are expressed in the Units -progress, which builds a difficult gap. the assigned budget, arranged in pesos. All of the above comprehensively affects the jurisdictional function of the Chilean courts with the ultimate goal of providing citizens with a timely and quality service.
The Corporate Director pointed out to the Superior Council, that according to the agreement between the President (S) of the Supreme Court and the Minister of Finance, on Tuesday the 12th a meeting was held with the Budget Directorate and specialists from both. institutions, which did not reach the necessary agreements that would allow the announced budget to be increased at this stage.
For this reason, the Superior Council of the Judiciary expressed its concern about the proposal presented, because it means a serious commitment to the operation of the Judiciary in critical areas such as the operation of the courts that make up the Judiciary and that the lack of resources This will negatively affect the provision of new infrastructure projects, since there will be no necessary budget for their development in the year 2024.
