The Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE) expressed this Thursday its support for the technical study of the water needs of the Valencian Community, the expansion of the port of Valencia, and the Castellón ceramics sector.
This was stated by the president of the CEOE, Antonio Garamendi, after a meeting at the Palau de la Generalitat with the president, Carlos Mazón, in a meeting in which the president of the CEV, Salvador Navarro, and the second vice president, Susana Camarero, also participated.
Garamendi explained after his first official meeting with the president that the Valencian Community is one of the economic engines of this moment and for the future of Spain, so that for the businessmen of this country, what happens in the Community is “the basis for knowledge of what can. happen in Spain.”.
The president of the Spanish employers’ association expressed “specific support” for the need for “national unity” regarding water and asked for a technical study on how this natural resource can be managed, a debate that should be on the table beyond identity debates.
For this reason, Garamendi defends the use of the “logic of numbers” and implements this debate, which in his opinion is “very important” since water also influences issues such as the circular economy.
Regarding the port of Valencia, he emphasized that it is “one of the great ports in Spain, where there is a real traction of industry, transport, and logistics” around it, so they support the approved measures to expand its facilities.
He also defended the importance of the demands of the ceramic industry in Castellón and asked to make a reflection: when talking about the goals of 2030, the goals of 20-20-20 are forgotten, establishing that in 2020 20% of the energies are renewable and 20% of the GDP of each country is industrial.
If that happens, he added, the jobs will be stable with agreed wages and will have an important driving effect, and he emphasized that this sector has more than 30% participation in the industrial GDP, while it is planned to invest 300,000 million euros in renewable energy in Spain.
“Very productive” meeting
For his part, the president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, described the meeting as “very fruitful” and thanked the work of CEOE and CEV for the northern expansion of the port of València, because at one time it meant “crying in the desert, “and it was achieved through determination and unity, with the support of the entire Spanish business community.
Regarding the water needs, he is grateful that “a president of the CEOE at the national level defends the positions of the water that is necessary for the water” of the Valencian Community, understanding that the water problem is not a few farms in Alicante but a transversal one. , and that belongs to everyone.
“Maybe now we are starting another war, another need,” said Mazón, who assured that “harmony is perfect” in this matter and emphasized that the Community is an “example of reuse” of water in Europe and that the transfers are not against nature because, without them, 50 million trees would be lost.
Regarding the ceramic sector, he regrets that the help from the Spanish government comes “too late, too slow, and too bad,” so in addition to asking for and increasing the help from the Consell, in the coming days they will talk to the association and the employers of Ascer.
Mazón indicated that the “plug in the development of renewable energy” in recent years in the community is no longer sustainable, which must be able to generate the energy it uses, and announced that the Consell is about to be presented, with the collaboration of the business community, as a strategy to simplify and reduce bureaucracy.
Likewise, he announced that the community will request, with the support of the owners’ association, the second runway at Alicante airport and the expansion of Manises airport (Valencia), and that on January 30 its social dialogue. Officially open the community of the legislature with the meeting of the plenary board.
