After more than a decade, life-size characters from the movie “Cars” will reunite at this extraordinary automotive event.
The stars of Disney and Pixar’s Cars reunite for Rennsport Reunion 7 September 28-October 1 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Life-size models of Sally Carrera and Lightning McQueen are at home in the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart and at Petersen Automotive in Los Angeles. For this event, both museums kindly made Sally and Lightning available so they could meet again.
“There can be no celebration of motorsport and Porsche without Lightning McQueen and Sally Carrera!” said Jay Ward, creative director of franchises at Pixar Animation Studios. “Life size models were created for the 2006 premiere of the original film Cars at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte. Sally was built from a 996 generation 911 and can be driven in real life. Sally and Lightning often traveled together to celebrate key moments and got to see a lot of the world when new Cars movies were released. In the last decade, however, they have become widely separated and even shown on different continents. It is wonderful that they meet in racing after so many years”.
Both Jay Ward and Bob Pauley, the production designer who first drew Sally Carrera over 20 years ago, will be attending Rennsport Reunion 7.
The 2022 Porsche 911 Sally Special returns to an event after its record-breaking auction last year and is on display at Rennsport thanks to the generosity of its owner. It is a unique example of a 911, equipped with dozens of specific parts and finishes resulting from the collaboration between Pixar and Porsche. It was auctioned for 3.6 million euros at Sotheby’s in Monterrey. The sale price was split between two charities: Girls Inc. and UNHCR, which provide educational support to girls across America and help children and families in post-war Ukraine, respectively.
Sally and Lightning will be the focus of the Rennsport Reunion 7 exhibits, giving visitors the chance to get up close and personal with the two beloved characters.
