At MG Motor they seem intent on breaking into the market, not only with several models climbing positions on best seller lists for their budget proposition, being in a price range from generic, and budget brands like Dacia, are left, probably never to return.
MG has recently ventured into a zero-emissions product, which introduces bolder aesthetics, and more technology, to become the electric car that offers more on a smaller budget, the MG4.
And not only. The MG4 made, for the first time, an electric car that was as economical as its diesel and petrol alternatives. and also achieved that today there is no compact on the market – with diesel and petrol engines – that offers more for what it costs than an MG4.
There are very few compact cars, the size of the MG4, that can be purchased for just over 20,000 euros, and none are electric, let alone equipped as standard.
The MG4 is available starting at 20,480 euros (at the end of 2022 it was available at 19,280 euros), a price at which an electric car of its size cannot be bought today, similar to that of a SEAT León (which is 2 centimeters shorter). To achieve this, MG has included a €1,210 discount, plus an additional €2,000 discount to finance the purchase with the Santander Promo-Finance promotion.
To reach this price it is also necessary to apply the help of the MOVES III plan, which in the case of delivery of a vintage car for scrapping amounts to 7,000 euros (without scrapping it is only 4,500 euros). But MG has set up a promotion for which it envisages the help of the MOVES Plan, with an interest-free loan of up to 7,000 euros, with a duration of 12 months and an 11-month grace period. So that the customer has one year to request aid and it is granted.
The MG4 in this offer, the cheapest, has a 125 kW engine (170 HP of power) and a battery that offers a range of 350 kilometers
The MG4 isn’t the cheapest car of its size. On the market we find various small cars that can be purchased for less than 19,280 euros but in all cases with petrol engines and much narrower standard equipment.
It’s not just a compact that is electric and, therefore, has much more expensive technology. But None of the compact cars on the market at that price offer the standard equipment that the MG4 comes stock with. and which includes the following:
- Full LED headlights
- 16″ alloy wheels.
- Auto start and keyless entry
- Remotely connected applications mG Ismart Lite
- Entertainment system with 10.25″ screen and Apple Carplay and Android Auto
- Digital instrumentation with 7″ screen.
Even though the second-hand market is experiencing inflation and the increase in the prices of new cars has been transferred to used cars, especially SUVs, with a few years and few kilometers, it is still possible to find some high-quality diesel and petrol compact cars, well equipped and priced in the region of €20,000.
At the time of writing this article, on the portal What car do I buy? 1,323 compact cars were surveyed, with all types of engines, with less than 100,000 kilometers, and prices ranging between 15,000 and 20,000 euros.
