Title: Kansas City Chiefs Executive Director of Player Personnel

Age: 36

Powles has been with the Chiefs for almost 13 years, working his way up from Human Resources Assistant to Administrator and College Scouting Coordinator, Director of College Scouting, Assistant Director of Players Human Resources, and this season became Executive Director of Players Human Resources. He was part of the Chiefs team that won Super Bowl LIV.

Powles was an offensive lineman at Boston College, where he was part of the defensive line for quarterback Matt Ryan. He signed with the Bears as an undrafted free agent before working as a recruiting assistant for British Columbia in 2008–09.

You must know

Powles also interviews the New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings this year and advanced to the second round of Giants interviews. Last year, he was a finalist in the competition for the position of general manager of the Carolina Panthers.

Chicago connection

Poul’s time at the Chiefs took up several general managers and coaches. He was on the Chiefs’ staff when former Bears coach Matt Nagy was quarterbacks coach and then offensive coordinator under coach Andy Reed.

What was said

Powles told his hometown newspaper two years ago about seeking leadership among the players he scouts: “We see these guys on TV every week as athletes, but they’re also next to each other all the time. So the dressing room should be good. If you don’t have a secure locker room, if you don’t keep everyone on the same wavelength, and if you don’t have leaders to keep the focus going, you’ll lose it.”
