Nine Israeli soldiers were killed in clashes with Hamas militants in the northern Gaza Strip, the Israeli military said on Wednesday.
The military said in a statement that the soldiers died on Tuesday, as Israel expanded its offensive on land in the besieged Palestinian enclave. Seven of the dead were members of the Givati​​​​​​​brigade and the other two belonged to an armored division.
At least 8,525 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza since the start of the latest wave of conflict between Israel and Hamas, which began on October 7, according to the Gaza-based Health Ministry.
For its part, the Israeli Army said that, since the same date, at least 1,400 people have lost their lives in Israel.
