The creator of “Game of Thrones” shared details about the new spin-off with Kit Harington in the title role

Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin has shared details of a new spin-off that will see Kit Harington reprise his role as Jon Snow.

The series, which Martin, 73, has confirmed is working title Snow, is set to continue the character who became a fan favorite during the eight-season fantasy epic.

Speaking about the project on his blog, Martin said: “Yes, The Jon Snow Show is in development.”

He also revealed in the post that the idea for the spin-off was originally pitched to him by 35-year-old British actor Harington.

He wrote: “Yes, it was Kit Harington who gave us the idea.

“I can’t tell you the writers/showrunners as it hasn’t been cleared for release yet… but Keith brought them in too, his own team, and they’re amazing.”

In the original Game of Thrones series, Harington played Jon Snow, the illegitimate son of the Stark family, who took up a post in the Night’s Watch to guard the human realm from the sinister White Walkers.

In Game of Thrones, Snow traveled north of the wall, reverting to the rank of Warden of the North, before learning that he actually comes from the dreaded Targaryen family.

Harington was nominated twice for a Primetime Emmy for his portrayal of the character and co-starred with his wife, Rose Leslie, who played his wildling love Ygritte on the show.

George R.R. Martin, pictured, said that it was Harington who originally came up with the idea for the spin-off (Liam McBurney/PA).

Martin added that he is currently unable to share many details, writing, “I can’t tell you more until HBO gives me the green light.”

But he did confirm that he was very involved in the production of Snow, as is the case with a number of other Game of Thrones spin-offs in development.

“There are various rumors about my involvement or lack of it,” he wrote.

“I participate in the same way as in The Hedge Knight, and in The Sea Snake, and in Ten Thousand Ships, and in all cartoon shows.

“Keith’s team visited me here in Santa Fe and worked with me and my own team of brilliant, talented writers and consultants to create the show.”

News of the Jon Snow spin-off came after the announcement of the House of the Dragon spin-off, a prequel that follows the rise of House Targaryen set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones.

The 10-episode HBO series starring Matt Smith as Damon Targaryen is based on Martin’s novel Fire and Blood.
