The Cuban team member, expelled from the MLB organization, received a new opportunity

The 2024 season of the Mexican Baseball League (LMB) has a unique new presence of three teams that were not in the previous competition: Charros de Jalisco, which returned to the circuit after 29 years and did so in place of Mariachis de Guadalajara (could not face the tournament due to financial problems); Dorados de Chihuahua, which returned after almost a decade and a half; and Conspiradores de Querétaro, a recently created cast that, together with Dorados, is the protagonist of an expansion draft in which both are fed by players.

The Chihuahua-based team announced seven foreigners at the beginning of December last year, and among them was Cuban infielder Alejandro Rivero. He has good memories in this territory because in the same city, the U-15 Baseball World Cup was held in 2012, where the national squad was the runner-up, but the Matanzas infielder left an impressive number: he averaged.440 with four doubles, one home run, and 15 RBIs. Also on that roster are Yordan Álvarez, Johan Oviedo, and Luis Robert Jr., who will later become big leaguers, in addition to others with experience in the National Series such as Rangel Ramos, José Amaury Noroña, and Francisco Martínez.

The young man continues to give something to talk about in the minor categories and is part of the national team that attended the youth world competition, held in 2015 in Osaka, Japan, and finished in fifth place. There he didn’t do well individually, as he posted an offensive line (AVE/OBP/SLG) of.154/.214/.154, but he looks ready for his debut in the National Series with the Crocodiles in his native province.

In two domestic championships, he almost had 17 official at-bats, where he had four hits (.235 average), one RBI, three strikeouts, and one walk. After several attempts, in 2015 he left Mexico with the intention of signing with a rental baseball organization, a fact that ultimately did not materialize, but he was given the opportunity to play college baseball in the United States, where he appeared. In his potential and in the seasons of 2019, 2020, and 2021, he is one of the fundamental forces of the St. Thomas Bobcats, a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). He hit.333 in three seasons, with 34 doubles, 28 homers, and 129 RBIs.

After the courses, the 26-year-old boy defended the colors of the Boise Eagles in the Pioneer League, an independent competition in North America, and in 2022 he was hired by the Chicago Cubs, an organization to which he belonged at the time but abandoned. behind the stats is pretty smart and doesn’t progress beyond Class A.

In 2023, he played with the York Revolution of the Atlantic League, another independent circuit, and there he finished the slash line at.272/.338/.387. His contract with the northwestern Mexican team will mark his debut in the country’s second-strongest tournament, and a good performance could open the door to a winter tournament.
