The end of the blockade against Cuba is urgent, they say in Uruguay

The prestigious media considered it “more urgent than ever,” when reporting on the session of the United Nations General Assembly where for the 31st time it was necessary to repeat the condemnation of the US government’s blockade against its neighboring country.

The Uruguayan publication revealed that the resolution titled “It is necessary to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba,” recorded a damage to the Caribbean island of almost five billion dollars, between March only. 2022 and February 2023.

According to Cuban figures, the publication shows, the Caribbean island loses more than 405 million dollars per month.

The total damage of losses in the Cuban economy amounts to 159 thousand 084.3 million dollars, calculated at current prices, according to the Uruguayan media according to the report presented in Havana.

Caras & Caretas stated that Cuba is suffering due to the intensification of the war policy implemented by the administration of Republican Donald Trump and repeated by the current Democratic president, Joe Biden.

He added that the difficulties for the island are greater due to Washington’s inclusion of a unilateral list that designates it as a state sponsor of terrorism.

The Cuban resolution against the US occupation has been presented since 1992 and has been approved by most of the countries that make up the United Nations.

Last year the vote was decided by 185 votes against the blockade, two against (the United States and Israel) and two abstentions, Ukraine and Brazil, the latter country governed by President Jair Bolsonaro.
