The president of government and general secretary of PSOE, Pedro Sánchezan, announced this Saturday that the Council of Ministers will approve the lines of guarantees of 2.5 billion euros through the Official Credit Institute (ICO) to access the entry for the purchase of a house for youth and families with dependent minors next Tuesday.
Sánchez has been doing it ever since Vigoat organized a campaign rally for the regional elections in Galicia to be held on Sunday, February 18, where he supported the socialist candidate for leadership of the Xunta, José Ramón Gómez Besteiro. In his speech, the president estimated the funds allocated to this initiative at 2,000 million euros, but socialist sources determined that it was 2.5 billion euros, as notified by the government.
The measure is already known; it was announced for the first time by Sánchez himself in May 2023 at an event in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the pre-campaign of the regional and municipal elections on May 28, where the president chained some announcements on this matter, as well as the construction of hundreds of thousands of new public housing units.
Now Sánchez has determined that the Council of Ministers will approve the opening on Tuesday on the warranty line, and that advances the initial plans of the Executive since just three days ago, the branch minister, Isabel Rodríguez, planned to approve this measure at the end of this month.
The leader of the socialists previously emphasized to the 1,600 attendees of the event that this step would serve to cover that entry, “which is what makes it difficult for young people and families in our country to buy a house and get a loan”I say this, especially to young people; if you don’t know, you can start it next Tuesday,” he pointed out.
In this way, he indicated that the government will begin to implement the public housing policy that it announced so that young people can be released at younger ages. Sánchez announced this measure to help buy a house, which complements other measures such as public housing for rent, which was also bet by the Executive, as stated.
This line of ICO guarantees is addressed to those under 35 years old with annual income less than 37,500 euros per year and families with dependent minors for partial coverage of mortgage loans and will respond to about 50,000 people, according to the estimate of Minister Rodríguez on Wednesday. With this, one searches “alleviate the lack of previous resources” for access to a mortgage, he said.
Message to farmers
Sánchez also sent a message this Saturday to ranches and farmers that “they don’t need denialist talk” and they need “resources” so that their executive can strengthen the food chain law so that in the main sector they do not sell at a loss. “Spain is with the countryside; it is with the farmers, with the ranchers, and also with the fishing sector,” he said.
The workers who dedicate themselves to these professions, recalls Sánchez, “do not need speeches, nor denialists or anti-European”, but they need “resources such as four billion euros.” They need fair prices,” he concluded.
