Controversy has erupted between the central government and social media giant Twitter over new IT rules in the country. But this time the central government has issued a final warning to Twitter, saying accept the new IT rules and be prepared to face the consequences if not implemented.

Government issues final notice to Twitter

A final notice issued by the government states that Twitter will not be able to absolve itself of responsibility under the IT Act for failing to comply with the new IT rules. In fact, the government of India has issued a final notice to Twitter to comply with the new IT rules.

The government said Twitter India has been given a final notice to comply with the new rules immediately. Failure to comply with these rules will result in loss of exemption available under the section of the IT Act, 2000 and Twitter will be liable for consequences under other laws of India under the IT Act. Not only that, the government has asked Twitter to appoint an employee of the company other than the compliance officer as the grievance officer and nodal officer.

The meeting took place on June 4 before the last warning was given to Twitter

The government said the rules announced on social media intermediaries came into force on May 26 and Twitter also has an India-based grievance officer and nodal officer after a three-month period to comply. It is being said that a meeting was held on June 4 under the chairmanship of Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad before giving the last warning to Twitter. Chiefs of Communications and Law and Justice and IT were present.
