The Homeland Security Secretary will travel to the Mexican border

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorcas plans to move to the U.S.-Mexico border amid an illegal immigration crisis there.

“I will travel to the border myself,” Mayorkas told CNN on Sunday.

Majorcas did not say when or where he was going, nor did he answer emailed questions from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Thousands of illegal immigrants, many of them from Haiti, have gathered under the international bridge in Del Rio, Texas in recent days, highlighting the Biden administration’s failure to increase illegal immigration since President Joe Biden took office in January.

Del Rio Mayor Bruno Lozano, a Democrat, has repeatedly appealed to administration officials to take note of what is happening, bringing together Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Lozano said he updated Mayorcas in the latest update on Sunday morning and was “grateful for the immediate action plan”.

The DHS closed Texas checkpoints on Friday and expelled some immigrants over the weekend.

The agency sent 40,000 agents and officers to the area to try to bring the situation under control. It helped relocate thousands of migrants to other processing sites to clear the crash in Del Rio, and began negotiations with the migrants to repatriate them. The White House, meanwhile, has instructed federal agencies to work with the Haitian government and other governments to help migrants return to where they came from.

Exceeding these steps, “the Biden administration has reiterated that our borders are not open, and people should not make dangerous journeys,” the DHS said in a statement on Saturday. Has become a significant threat to and should not be tried. “

“We are certainly facing a challenging situation, but we are increasing our resources and we have a multifaceted approach to that,” Mayorkas told CNN. He added that the Department of Defense is going to provide resources; The department did not return the investigation.

Mayorcas said Haitians who arrived before July 29th would receive temporary protection but those who arrived later would be repatriated.

The White House did not comment on the situation. White House Press Secretary Jane Sackie did not give a briefing Friday. Biden left Washington on Friday for a weekend vacation at Rehoboth Beach in Delaware, where he ignored questions from pool reporters. Harris appeared to toss coins at a college football game in Washington on Saturday.
