The law banning most abortions is in force in Indiana, USA

The rule was approved by the state legislature in a special session early last month, shortly after the Supreme Court, with a conservative majority, decided to set aside the 1973 ruling in the case known as Roe v. Wade and Thus the protection was withdrawn. Regarding voluntary termination of pregnancy.

Indiana’s governor, Republican Eric Holcomb, issued a statement following approval of the project where he assured that he would legislate it as part of a promise to “support legislation that advances the safety of life.”

To this day, providers of these procedures in the state are prevented from offering them except in authorized cases.

However, some centers such as the South Bend Clinic reported that it would maintain its operations in “support for those seeking abortion services” and that it would continue its activism “to push back cruel and unjust acts”.

Reproductive rights groups such as the ACLU and Planned Parenthood are challenging the new law in state court, with a hearing already set for Sept. 19.

According to Planned Parenthood’s state director, Tamarra Wider, the ban will also affect Kentucky women, who will now have to travel to Illinois, because their state of residence has a veto on abortion.

As the United States Public Broadcasting Service found out, Indiana represented the next closest option for most of its patients seeking to terminate a pregnancy.

Last Tuesday, Sen. Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, introduced a bill that would ban abortion throughout the United States after 15 weeks of pregnancy.

The proposal includes a possible five-year prison sentence for any supplier who violates the veto and would retain the most restrictive state rules in place of Democratic states protecting sexual and reproductive guarantees.
