The Madrid Assembly investigates a Vox vote for an empty seat and Monasterio assures that “they are technological things”

Unexplainable things happen during the voting of parliaments. A politician may accidentally vote against his entire party and the result is that an important law for the Government is passed. Or ghost councilors can press the ‘no’ button from an empty seat. This second case is what happened in the Madrid Assembly, when an additional vote was added from a Vox representative who left his position a few days ago.

The Parliament of Madrid is currently investigating this vote to find out what happened, because the former deputy José Luis Bartolomé still has no replacement when the full reform of the Circular Economy Law presented by Más Madrid debated.

The party led by Manuela Bergerot announced that it will request the temporary suspension of the Vox spokesperson in the Madrid Assembly, Rocío Monasterio. The spokesperson of Más Madrid published a message on X in which he urged that “the institutions impose those who think that the rules do not suit them.”

In the images, you can see how the regional spokesperson for the far-right party, Rocío Monasterio, presses buttons on the seat next to him while laughing. As he himself explained in the press conference after the Meeting of Spokespersons, Monasterio assured that “they are technological things and Enrique Ossorio (the president of the Assembly) warned about them.” “I tried to hit everything to make it go away.” “No matter how I pushed all the buttons, it didn’t turn off,” added Monasterio.

“There is nothing serious,” Monasterio insisted, justifying it by saying that it did not affect the final result, since the proposal was also rejected by the absolute majority of the PP. The spokesman of the PSOE in Madrid, Juan Lobato, also spoke about the “lack of importance”, although he pointed out that it must be solved: “That it will be investigated and that it is warned that it will not be exploited if no one presses the button on the side”.

Manuela Bergerot, leader of Más Madrid, indicated that “no one does not know” that Vox has “difficulties” to “reach par” in parliamentary work.

But Monasterio’s statements did not convince the spokesman of the PP, Carlos Díaz-Pache, who denied the technical failure. “You have to push the button on their seat, then push the button on the other one. “That’s not a technical failure, it’s a human failure or an attempt to get a vote without one,” he launched.
