The Ministry of Culture and Sports (MCD) has requested the return of Mayan pieces shown in “Maya: The Jaguar Rises”, which ended on September 30 in California, United States.
In a statement, the MCD disclosed the lack of response from the California Science Center Foundation to fulfill the agreements established on the return of movable cultural property.
“Our supervisors support the method of disassembling and packing the parts. However, until now, the California Science Center Foundation has remained silent and avoided official communication about the return of cultural pieces to Guatemala. That’s how cultural properties are at risk of remaining without relevant protective measures in the warehouses of the United States,” the Ministry indicated.
Mayan pieces can be moved to Germany
In the statement, the MCD assured that it has information that There is a risk that the Mayan pieces will be illegally transferred to a museum in Germany.
For this reason, it requests to follow the provisions of the agreement that was first signed. But if they don’t do it, they will act in Guatemala and through diplomatic channels, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
