The National Police arrested a woman for allegedly mistreating her two-month-old daughter, who was admitted with five broken ribs at the Doctor Balmis General University Hospital in Alicante, according to police sources.
The arrest occurred on October 20, after the medical staff of the hospital where the girl was admitted conveyed suspicions to the National Police that her injuries were not accidental and due to an episode of abuse.
After a complete examination, doctors confirmed that the minor had other injuries that revealed that he may have suffered contusions before the rib fractures.
Due to suspicions of abuse, the hospital activated the protocol established for these cases and informed the National Police, whose Family and Women Care Unit (UFAM) is in charge of the investigations.
Agents specialized in this type of crime detained the woman after questioning her and coordinated with the Territorial Directorate of Equality and Inclusive Policies to protect the minor. The mother was charged with a crime of abuse.
After learning that the girl fell down some stairs in a child’s car and her parents did not take her to the doctor, the investigators of the Alicante Provincial Judicial Police Brigade concluded that the girl could be a victim of abuse after be interviewed. relatives of the victim and the pediatricians of the General Hospital.
The mother and her partner denied abusing the girl and said they did not know how she sustained the injuries. According to the arrested woman, there are bruises on her daughter’s body but she was not hit.
