One of the biggest sedans of the German brand, the BMW 5 Series, comes with a major update in its eighth generation.
And this is done with a new and elaborate design, where there are some highlights from the E60 series of the early 2000s, among them are some vertical LEDs that also act as turn signals.
The signature double kidney grille is more visible, with optional backlighting around the edges. The door handles are now flush with the body and rear, the new headlights are slimmer and are joined by a chrome bar.
The wheels of this BMW range from 18 inches, 19 for the plug in hybrid and up to an optional size of 21 inches. However, the most surprising thing is the increase in length, 9.7 centimeters, until it reaches and exceeds five meters, specifically 5.06 meters.
It also grows in width by 3.2 centimeters up to 1.90 meters and in height by 3.6 centimeters up to 1.51 meters. As for its base, it increases by two centimeters and reaches three meters, specifically 2.99 meters.
The length of the 5 series exceeds five meters in this generation.

First, the increase in external measurements should result in more space on the board. The infotainment screen is also larger, which has already been seen in other models of the brand such as the BMW XM. The so-called BMW Proposition combines a curved screen with watches (12.3 inches) with the infotainment screen itself (14.9 inches).

The reader retains the gear stick, but launches the new iDrive. In addition, the display of his head increases the matter. And above all, it surpasses its older brother, the BMW 7 Series, with the award of films on board thanks to a technology called Air Console.
Even the 7 Series with some driving assistants like the lane change assistant, which required a follow-up from the vehicle itself in confirmation of the driver with only a glance in his outside rearview mirror.
Three mechanics available
At launch, the new BMW 5 Series 2024 will come with three engines: one gasoline and two diesel (yes, diesel), all with four cylinders and 2.0 liters with TwinPower Turbo technology and electrified with 48V microhybridization with a wide 8-speed transmission.
The gasoline engine will provide 190 hp and 310 Nm of torque, closing the clock from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds. It reaches 230 km/h and will have rear-wheel drive and average consumption between 5.7 and 6.4 l/100 km, according to the brand.
The 5 Series will also have vertical front LED turn signals.
As for the diesel, they will yield 197 hp and 400 Nm of torque with the only difference between them being that one will be propulsion, the other wheel drive. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is the same: 7.3 seconds, but the top speed is 233 km/h in the first case and 228 in the all-wheel drive model. The consumption of the former goes from 5.6 to 6.1 l/100 km, the latter from 5.5 to 6.0 l/100 km.
In the spring of 2024, two new mechanics will arrive, this time a plug-in hybrid, and a six-cylinder diesel.
BMW i5, in 100% electric version
Like its older brother, in this case the BMW i7, this 5 series will also have 100% electric versions that bear the name BMW i5. And it will come with two different guns.
The first is the eDrive40 with one drive and 313 hp. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds and reaches a top speed of 193 km/h, with a range of 582 kilometers.
The most powerful version is called the M60 xDrive and it already has two engines: a front one with 261 CV and a rear one with 340 CV. The total combined power is 517 CV which reaches 601 if the mode called My Sport Mode is activated. . It goes from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds and its top speed is 230 km/h. Its range in one charge is 516 kilometers.
The trunk of the 5 Series has five hundred liters, 10 less than its predecessor.
The useful battery of both will be 81.2 kWh. And the limitation of the admitted load is 205 kW, which will allow, with a 10-minute load, to be able to go 156 more kilometers, or to go from 10 to 80% in just half an hour.
The price has not yet been revealed, but the date of arrival in Spain was: October 2023.
