Soon in the United States, thousands of people will have the opportunity to receive up to $5000.00 USD in their mailbox. This is made possible thanks to the state’s Unclaimed Property program.
In this sense, every citizen has the right to verify if they have it and the only thing they have to do is to check their mailbox.
Little is known about the subject, but every state in North America has an area dedicated to receiving any kind of money that is not received by its recipients.
Here we find tax refunds, money in abandoned bank accounts or stimulus checks that did not reach their destination. Therefore, this “missing” money is known as Unclaimed Property.
In addition, it is very common for people to start receiving said money and not realize that it is always theirs.
In this sense, the Treasurer of Illinois, Michael Frerichs, announced that this state will begin to send payments to a certain number of people.
Meanwhile, more than 66,000 residents are in line to receive up to $5,000.00 USD from the state’s Unclaimed Property program. However, it is the responsibility of each person to verify if they have Unclaimed Property.
What about the specific case in Illinois?
In that state, lawmakers agreed to increase the automatic payment limit to $5000.00 USD. All this thanks to the agreement of the treasurer of the Illinois General Assembly and in conjunction with the Money Match program.
The goal here is to allow faster repayment for residents with debt through the Unclaimed Property program.
Therefore, since the check mailing was announced in August, Enhanced Money Match letters have been issued to 66,700 eligible residents.
Therefore, approximately $47 million dollars is expected to be returned to residents through the program.
It is also valid to explain that many of the eligible people have started receiving $5000.00 USD in their mailboxes. However, the amount they get will depend on the amount of money they have as unclaimed property.
