The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has terminated the school mask mandate

The Department of Education conducts a maskless event as a state battle to keep the mask on the children

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court on Friday upheld a Commonwealth Court ruling in which Acting Health Secretary Alison Beam was not entitled to a mask mandate for everyone indoors in schools and kindergartens.

This means that as soon as it comes into force, school mask mandates are no longer mandatory, although many schools have a local rule that students who want to wear a mask can still do so.

The suit was brought by Pennsylvania Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman, a Republican, gubernatorial candidate. He was personally, as a parent, entrusted with other parents, not as part of the Senate movement.

“With today’s decision, the authority of parents and local leaders to make health and safety decisions in our schools has been restored,” Corman said in a statement. “This force is committed to reviewing the facts and acting in the best interests of our communities, so legislators sent a letter to Governor Tom Wolf yesterday to reconvene a working group on the COVID-19 vaccine. I urge you to consider the needs and conditions in our communities to make the best choice for you. ”

The wolf recently announced on Jan. 17 that it would return mask decisions to local school principals, so while the state Department of Health appealed the Commonwealth Court’s decision to continue the fight for a mandatory mask mandate, some were surprised.

At a time when the state is struggling in court to wear masks on children, on Dec. 6, teachers gathered without students and became indifferent to wearing masks.

Education Minister Noe Ortega has announced that Elizabeth Raff, a teacher at Penn Manor School in Lancaster County, will be named Pennsylvania’s Best Teacher of 2022.

This was announced at the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s annual Advanced Training Conference at the Institute for Standardized Systems. In photos taken from the event provided by the state, teachers and civil servants gathered without maintaining social distance and wearing masks.

Raff teaches English arts and social studies to sixth graders at Pequea Elementary School. He was selected from 12 finalists. She travels across the state, meets and collaborates with other teachers, and will represent Pennsylvania in next year’s Teacher of the Year national competition.
