The police shot his former partner and killed a Seniat officer

Mercedes Linares, 42, was surprised by her former partner. The man beat him, pointed at his chest, and shot him. Minutes before he shot Diego Hernán García Rangel (38), Linares’ new partner, The woman survived the attack, but García died. His body was left lying on the sidewalk, according to witnesses.

The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. on October 23 at the Terra Nostra residential complex, located in the municipality of San Diego. Linares lives in that area with his 16-year-old son. The perpetrator was a local policeman. Authorities identified him as Oliver José Contreras. His rank is chief officer.

A witness to the homicide told The Pitazo that García Rangel took Linares to his house, located in the A-3 nucleus. The man drove a Chevrolet Optra car, from which the woman got out, not realizing that her former partner was nearby.

García was leaving urban planning when the police, riding a motorcycle, shot him. An eyewitness to the incident said at least four explosions were heard. Then, the officer entered Linares’ house and shot him.

“I don’t know what I’m doing.”

After doing that act, the culprit gave his things to a citizen who came from his home to throw away the garbage. “I don’t know what I’m doing; I lost control; I’m going to kill myself,” shouted the officer while escaping on his motorcycle.

Mercedes Linares was helped by her son, who took her to a clinic, where she remains confined. The woman is an official of the National Integrated Customs and Tax Administration Service (Seniat). Diego Hernán García Rangel works for the same organization.

Linares’ acquaintances said that his ex-partner continued to harass him and did not accept the separation. The police have a restraining order for Linares. I reported it. Additionally, he is on medical leave due to mental health issues.

It is not yet settled

On the afternoon of October 24, the San Diego Municipal Police issued a statement to deplore the incident “in which an officer from our institution was allegedly involved who, according to reports, ran away and has not been found.”

“It is important to clarify that this case corresponds to an isolated and personal incident of the person who committed it and that our institution has nothing to do with action taken by the alleged official involved,” said the official letter.
