The prequel to “The Immortals” will be the beginning of a new great saga

The reboot in the form of a prequel to The Immortals, of which we learned new details a few days ago, will update one of the most famous and beloved films of the eighties. The fantasy and action production is directed by Chad Stahelski, creator and mastermind behind John Wick, and was created with one very clear aim: to repeat the phenomenon of the 1986 film starring Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, and Clancy Brown and revive it. In fact, Henry Cavill has been announced as the major protagonist and leading man, an announcement made with great fanfare that becomes relevant now that The Witcher’s interpreter is being ditched for creative reasons. Now we know that Stahelski, who doesn’t want to return to John Wick in a few years, wants to make The Highlanders the next big action-fantasy saga.

The desired reboot in the form of a prequel to “The Immortals” with Henry Cavill will be the beginning of a great saga full of fantasy and action

If you’re fed up with the cinematic universes and the big licenses that diversify their stories into comics, novels, series, and multiple films, as is the case with Marvel, Star Wars, or DC, be careful: the immortals will repeat the same strategy. During an interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, director Chad Stahelski, who continues to promote his latest blockbuster, John Wick 4, confirmed that Highlanders is a real project that’s still going strong despite the raging writers’ strike. Hollywood, and it could be the start of something even bigger.

“I think we have very good ideas to base it on now,” he said of the build of the story, which we already knew would be a prequel. “The trick to all of this is very simple; if you’re like, ‘There can only be one left,’ you can’t kill them all the first time,” he explained at the time. But there is more. It’s not a simple reboot of the saga; it’s something bigger and more complex, as Stahelski admits to having considered and reviewed The Immortals clone to license it as one of fantasy’s all-time greats to make genre and action in our days.

The new film will use elements from the TV series and other sequels and will mark the beginning of a new saga.

“Okay, let me tell you first: our story includes many of the same characters from the saga,” revealed the filmmaker, who claims Cavill is still on board. And that The Immortals, in its prequel, will in one way or another serve as the starting point for a new saga in the future. “To be independent, yes, but we’ve also introduced elements of all the TV series and are trying to do some sort of prequel so we have space to continue developing the saga,” he clarified. What do you mean? Well, the new film will be the starting point of a new saga that will compete to be relevant at the box office and, who knows, in streaming too.

What is the Immortals saga about? A story with sequels, TV movies and even TV series

In the original film, a group of immortal warriors fought for supremacy, and their own dynasty fought among themselves for millennia. Portrayed and directed by Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, he received training from veteran Ramrez (Sean Connery), a skilled swordsman who helped him wield a sword against Kurgan, the film’s villain. With a soundtrack based on Queen’s main theme, the saga has spanned several sequels, spin-offs, and television series, all of dubious quality. Whether this new starting point can convince viewers remains to be seen.
