The president of Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chaves, through a press conference, continued his decision to request visas for Honduran citizens who tried to enter his country, according to his arguments , due to uncertainty. However, he promised to review the measure “in the coming months.”
Chaves mentioned that the decision to impose the visa was made together with the Ministry of Security and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Likewise, he announced that he had “reliable information” on the presence of criminal groups made up of Hondurans, dedicated to contract killings in the country.
“The arrest of a former Honduran military who came to kill alias “Shock” with weapons of war and others came to set up hitmen schools. Do you think I can see the balance of trade between Costa Rica and Honduras to endorse the recommendation of the Ministry of Security? “said Chaves.
In addition, they recognized that their main concern was the security of their countries, which led them to make this decision. “Priorities are priorities and making decisions is a reflection of the Government’s priority.”
In that sense, he stressed that keeping citizens safe is the most important thing, despite the economic problems that may arise in the new measure.
“When everyone is clamoring for the security and right to life of our citizens, the economic figures should be secondary,” he added.
It is worth mentioning that Costa Rica exceeded 700 homicides on Tuesday, this is the highest number in its history, and most of these crimes are attributed by the authorities to hitmen and the fight between gangs for smuggling drugs for territories for drug sales.
Talk to Honduras
Chaves assured that he spoke with the president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, to explain the reasons for imposing the visa and commented that it seems “legitimate” that he wants to start a dialogue about it.
“I explained to the President, Mrs. Xiomara Castro, with all due respect, what triggered this situation and I assured here and before the people of Honduras to review these measures in the most constructive way in the coming months,” he assured.
The president insisted that “Costa Rica gives a consular visa, which is the fastest, he said to Honduran drivers, with your Central American carrier identification card, anyone from Honduras with an American or European visa is not “Costa Rica visa” is required.
In addition, he clarified that this decision is not a reason for conflict with the neighboring country. “We want to have a dialogue, to work together. I am asking the people of Honduras not to think that we believe they are people who should not come to Costa Rica,” he said.
Measurement used in both countries
In recent days, Costa Rica requires a consular visa for Hondurans who wish to enter Costa Rica.
This is the reason that Honduras applies the reciprocal measure to the neighboring country, where now a consular visa is also required for Costa Ricans.
