The Socialist Party celebrated this morning’s 32nd Ordinary General Congress “Carlos Lorca Tobar” in the main hall of the University of Santiago, where authorities such as the Minister of the Interior were invited, Carolina Tohaand the former president Michelle Bachelet.

On the other hand, among those present are Heraldo Muñoz -former chancellor during Bachelet’s second government-, who recently announced publicly his return to the PS from the Party for Democracy (PPD), which led between 2018 and 2021.
The new socialist militant indicated that his main motivation for re-entry was to create a “socialist federation” to cope with left-wing maximalism and the extreme right.
“I came back because the fiftieth anniversary of the coup marked me very much and because there should be a great socialist force to become a federation so that parties can continue their own identity gradually create a collective identity”, he said from the Central Station.
Under this, he insisted: “We must have a new broad socialist force that unites all the parties that are already working independently, because the advance to the right most concerned me. It is important then to strengthen democratic socialism and I think it can be done better from PS”.
Likewise, he specified that the possible new party should include Democratic Socialism as a foundation with independent parties with a vision. socialist, humanist, libera,l and democratic.
However, he initially rejected it Communist Party and the Broad Front but noted that this should be decided together.

For his part, President Paulina Vodanovic appreciated that the party can appeal to the youth as well as the historical ones. “Here there are personal reasons, sentimental reasons, I would even say, as in the case of Heraldo Muñoz, that he has been talking to me for a long time about this possibility because he feels that this is his party of origin.
Likewise, he added that “there are other colleagues who are angry with the political line of the party at some point, thinking that from outside the part,y they can build a better alternative and that over time they appreciate the political action of the party and that they have seen that From here it is also possible to build and build from a responsible nothing, from nothing made of changes and the changes they require our citizenship and also loyalty to our government”, he completed.
In the same way, he is determined to defend alliances with parties such as the Christian Democrats and the Communists waiting for PS to be the house on the left.
