The RPG Site’s Most Anticipated RPG of 2022

With 2021 behind us, on the RPG site we’re looking forward to what’s going to happen in 2022, and as fans of the role-playing genre, there’s a lot to look forward to. We wanted to highlight some of the games we’re particularly looking forward to seeing.

Our staffing criteria are too loose for the most anticipated selection. In our staff vote, we’ve chosen upcoming RPGs that either interest us, have a good pedigree, and/or titles that find themselves with interesting release situations in relation to its development. In our internal poll this year, we noticed that instead of getting votes for a few titles, there are many titles. therefore, We have selected 14 RPGs in total Which we are eagerly waiting for.

Note that the list is unranked, with the exception of our composite the winner,

Need a refresher on which RPGs are going to be released in 2022? We have a list you can check out right here,

RPG Site Staff Picks – The Most Anticipated 2022 RPG

Granblue Fantasy: Relink

We have been waiting for this new action rpg from sygames for a long time. Initially announced in 2016, the road to Granblue Fantasy: Relink has been a bumpy one. We’ve been drip-fed footage for years and it’s shaping up to be a good time. The original GranBlue fantasy browser game has garnered a huge roster since its inception and we’re keeping our fingers crossed that our favorites will make it to Relink.

Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origins is one of the weirdest (no pun intended) projects we’ve seen in the big-budget AAA RPG space. Developed in collaboration with Koei Tecmo, Square Enix and Nioh developers Team Ninja, Stranger of Paradise explores the story behind the first final fantasy game. Team Ninja has adapted a lot to how Nioh works and added a Final Fantasy twist to it, from switching jobs on-the-fly and absorbing enemy spells to making them your own. We think Stranger of Paradise has great potential to be one of the best games in 2022 because it re-contextualizes the lore behind Final Fantasy by adding a dash of chaos to it all.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak

Monster Hunter Rise was a great game that consumed a lot of time for many staff members last year. We’re hoping that in 2022 a lot more of our time will be devoted to monster hunting with the upcoming Sunbreak expansion that aims to add a new area, master ranks, and of course, more monsters. Thankfully, Sunbreak is coming together for Switch and PC; This will not be a repeat of the strangely staggered release facing Monster Hunter World: Iceborne.

2022_Most Anticipated-Relayer.png

It is one of the most interesting releases of 2022 and probably the only one on this list that doesn’t have a significant pedigree behind the maker. Relayer comes from the development team behind 2017’s God Wars, which was initially met with mixed reception, until subsequent releases saw it improving overtime with updates to its system and balance. There aren’t too many mecha-focused strategy RPGs other than the Super Robot Wars series, so we’re rooting for Kadokawa Games to strike gold on this upcoming release.

Star Ocean The Divine Force

Star Ocean has always been a weird RPG series with crazy characters, fun combat, and a somewhat complicated progression system. It may not always be the most polished, or best executed, but every Star Ocean title always seems to have something weird or interesting that many other JRPG series can’t match. Star Ocean The Divine Force is the most detailed title ever, with vast areas and a focus on exploration and traversal. star ocean the last hope And Star Ocean Integrity and Faithlessness There are flawed gems, but hopefully this time around Tri-Ace delivers an experience that can stand up to even the strongest of the genre.

Euden Chronicle: Rising

It’s been over a decade since we’ve seen an official Suikoden release, and RPG fans are excited to see that genre of RPG revisited, as evidenced by the record-breaking Kickstarter campaign of the spiritual successor Euden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. is shown. While the title isn’t really set to launch until 2023 at the earliest, we’ll see what’s to come in the sidescroller RPG spinoff with Euden Chronicle Rising. The gameplay shown at the Tokyo Game Show looked promising, and even a taste of what’s to come is exciting.

The launch of a new Bethesda RPG is always an event. The launch of a new Bethesda RPG IP is something we haven’t seen in a long, long time. Being built on the new Creation Engine 2, we have high hopes for Starfield as an immersive open-world experience. There’s still a lot about the game that we don’t know yet, but you bet we’ll be rolling it all out when it arrives in November.

Rune Factory 5

This is the third time Rune Factory 5 has entered our most anticipated list. Rune Factory 4 was a watershed moment for the series, which skyrocketed its popularity as an action RPG/farming sim/dating sim combo, and fans have been waiting for a true follow-up ever since. After releasing in Japan with localization scheduled for March, we don’t have to wait much longer to get it.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus

People have been demanding an open-world Pokémon game for what feels like forever. Pokemon Legends: Arceus isn’t quite, but it’s quite a departure for the franchise we usually see from Game Freak. With a new way to encounter and tame Pokémon, a larger area to explore, and a more feisty take on the Pokémon world, it’s certainly one of the most interesting titles to hit very soon.

elden ring

Elden Ring is definitely one of the biggest RPGs to come out in early 2022. Take combat and progress like Souls, add an open world, and sprinkle in some narrative elements from George R.R. Martin, and how could we not be more excited for Ring of Elden? The impressions of the Closed Network Test are promising, and now all we have to do is play the waiting game for a month or two.

Final Fantasy XVI was our “wishful thinking” last year, and definitely “wishful thinking,” as we’ve barely heard anything about the game throughout 2021. We learned a small thing that English voiceover and face capture were done prior to the Japanese recording of the game, but otherwise, we are in the same boat as we were in January 2021. We’re still excited, and the news is set to arrive in the spring, so hopefully, we’ll learn more sooner rather than later. If Final Fantasy XVI doesn’t release on 2022, look forward to seeing it in next year’s most anticipated list.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel

Yet another title that graces our most anticipated list for the second year in a row, of course, we’re excited to see what Nintendo has to offer with this sequel that doesn’t even have an official title yet. We know the game is ‘targeting’ a 2022 release, and the trailer shown at E3 2021 highlights a lot of good things in this anticipated follow-up. It may only loosely be an RPG, but five years after Breath of the Wild’s launch, our hopes for its sequel are as high as ever.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake (Wishful Thinking Pic)

2022_Most Anticipated-Dragon-Quest-HD-2D-Remake.png

Originally released in 1988, Dragon Quest III is still one of the best RPGs of all time. When a remake using Octopath Traveler style HD-2D pixel art visuals was announced, we were certainly excited to see more of an all-time classic redone. We still don’t have confirmation on when Dragon Quest III HD-2D will launch, or even what platforms it’ll be available for, but we’re ready to go whenever we can get our hands on it. are capable.

Triangle Tactics (Staff’s Choice for Most Anticipated 2022 RPG Winner)

It seems like it’s been forever since we got a true tactical RPG from Square Enix. best remake of final fantasy strategy And Strategy Monster: Let’s Stick Together Originally launched for the PSP in 2007 and 2010 respectively, while Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift It still remains the most recent entry in the series, which also launched in 2007 for the Nintendo DS. It’s been a long time coming, but Triangle Tactics aims to finally scratch the itch that Tactics fans have been waiting for more than a decade. With multiple characters, competing factions, intriguing conflicts, and a promising demo, our expectations are high for Triangle Strategy. Set to launch exclusively for the Nintendo Switch in March, we hope this spiritual successor can live up to the namesake of its predecessors and become much more than a gimmick.
