The second edition of the Horeka Challenge concludes with a demo day

The second edition of the Horeka Challenge, initiated by the group Mediapro, Dam, Familia Torres and PepsiCo to promote development and technological change in the hospitality sector, has concluded with the celebration of Demo Day. During the event, which took place on Wednesday, September 21 at Tech Barcelona’s Pier 01, the three winning startups of the 2022 edition (Yumin, Groovy and Upvine) presented and evaluated the results of pilot tests conducted in recent months. During the first edition of the initiative, a commitment was made to explore innovative projects that would boost the hospitality industry at a critical moment due to the great impact of the pandemic on the sector; This year the organization has focused on its commitment to innovation as a lever for the transformation of bars and restaurants. On this occasion, the projects presented revolve around three challenges: enriching delivery services and bridging the channel with digital content; Promote the use of Horeka Space by incorporating new uses; and improve the efficiency of the channel’s value chain.

Yumin, the winner of this edition in the Efficiency Improvement category in the Horeka series, allows diners to view and pay their bills through an application integrated into the POS. The solution has been pilot tested in two different locations: a restaurant with a capacity of 1,000 diners a day and a rooftop bar, with positive results in both establishments. Allowing customers to pay for themselves has reduced average table time to a quarter of an hour, improving the establishment’s profitability. Furthermore, Yumminn has managed to improve the consumer experience by offering speed while paying and reducing wait times. Thanks to pilot testing, the startup has added new features demanded by hoteliers like Google Reviews or a webapp for the visibility of table payments.

UpVine, software that allows wine producers to connect with their consumers through interactive experiences, is the winning solution in a range of rich distribution and do-it-yourself services with digital content. The platform works to transform wine tasting into a digital interactive activity that allows customers to get to know the producer and understand their product opinion through video. A pilot trial was conducted at a local takeaway to encourage the purchase of wine in this channel and this additional experience has been shown to increase sales of this product.

In the end, Groovy, the workspace reservation platform whose mission is to promote hybrid office models and smart working, has been the winning proposition in the challenge of promoting the use of Horeka spaces to incorporate new uses. Experimental testing has allowed the project to reach cooperation agreements with more than fifty partners, obtaining useful data on the tastes and preferences of potential customers.
