The situation is rapidly deteriorating

Netanyahu’s meeting with the hostages’ relatives ended with shouting and criticism of the Government

The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, met this Tuesday with the families of Israeli hostages captured by Hamas, some of them among the 100 who have returned, others are relatives of the 138 still held by the Islamist organization.

The Israeli government designed the meeting to discuss the ill-treatment inflicted on Hamas captives, but the emotions of relatives of those still being held weigh heavily. “It was a very chaotic meeting, a lot of people were shouting,” said Jennifer Master, whose partner, Andrey, remains a hostage.

The end of the ceasefire and the exchange of hostages put the lives of those still in power in Hamas at risk and many of those who attended came out with critical opinions against the Israeli Government.

In a press conference, Netanyahu stuck to the original plan. “I heard stories that broke my heart, I heard about thirst and hunger, about physical and mental abuse,” the prime minister said. “Netanyahu at a press conference. “I have heard, like you, stories of sexual abuse and rape that have never been seen before.”

However, Dani Miran, whose son Omri was among those captured by Hamas, said he felt the meeting was an insult to his intelligence and that he left it midway. “I won’t go into the details of what was discussed in the meeting, but it was bad, insulting and confusing,” he told Israel’s Channel 13, claiming the government had made the matter a “laughter.” “They tell us: ‘we did this, we did that’. (Yahya) Sinwar (, the leader of Hamas in Gaza) is the one who freed our people, not them. I am angry that they (the Government) are saying that they are dictating how to do it. “They are not dictating a movement.” (Reuters)
