The east coast of the United States is experiencing a snowstorm that has put 20 million people and that has trapped thousands of other trains and highways.
It is the biggest snow storm that Washington has seen in the last 6 years and has become a real nightmare for many. Many vehicles have been covered by a layer of snow of several centimeters. In addition, hundreds of drivers were trapped for 24 hours on one of the busiest highways. The metro and buses operate with long delays and more than 5,000 flights have been canceled by the storm.
In one area of Washington, about 200,00 households are still no power supply two days after the storm. With the snow still on the street, meteorologists warn that more could fall tomorrow.
Thousands of drivers were stuck in a matter of minutes, passed 24 hours inside the car. “I stopped my car and set 8 alarms to keep me awake at 30-minute intervals,” says one of those trapped from his vehicle. From the air, it is impressive to see a row of cars retained by the snow. The trapped passed harrowing hours.
The storm blocks the streets
As for the trains, the branches on one of the tracks forced one of them to activate the emergency brake. “It was terrifying being stuck in total darkness, we didn’t know when we were going to move or where we really were,” says one of those affected. Those trapped were 28 hours without being able to leave.
The snowstorm that hits the United States these days has paralyzed the streets. Branches have blocked roads and walking the streets is unthinkable. More than half a million people have suffered power outages due to the snowstorms and thousands of flights have had to be cancelled.
