Teams from Mexico and Matanzas defeated Venezuela and Estrellas de la Liga Elite on Tuesday, closing the round-robin of the Cuban baseball Stars Series.
In the first duel of that date, the Aztecs defeated the South Americans (6-5). Meanwhile, at the end, the Matanzas Crocodiles were ahead of the luminaries (19-11), in a real festival of hits.
After these results, Matanzas is on top (2-1), with the same balance but a better tiebreaker index than Estrellas and Mexicanos, placed in positions two and three. The Venezuelans finished in fourth place (0-3).
This Wednesday, they will compete in the semifinal duels of the tournament, the Estrellas against Mexico, starting at half past two in the afternoon. Meanwhile, from half past six, Matanzas and Venezuela will do it.
The winners will discuss the tournament title next Thursday, and the losers will play for bronze on the same date.
This Tuesday, the final of the home run derby also took place at the Victoria de Girón stadium in Matanzas.
In a brotherly rivalry between Cuban and Venezuelan hitters, which turned into a real party, the best part went to the South American José Tello, who hit nine home runs.
Amidst the shouts of encouragement from their teammates and the jokes of their sports rivals, the four finalists who were classified the previous day passed through the batter’s box.
Speaking to Radio Havana Cuba, the winner confirmed his willingness to defend his title next year in a possible second Star Series. Also, he confessed to the press how special the Cuban public is.
