The automotive sector union of Deer The UAW announced Monday that extended its strike to demand better wages for a large pickup factory belonging to the Stellantis group in the state of Michigan.
So they joined the work suspension of 6,800 workers at this RAM truck factory, “the biggest and most profitable” in the group located in the city of Sterling Heights, which brings the total number of strikers in the plants of Stellantis, Ford, and GM companies to more than 40,000 employees.
The total membership of the UAW is 146,000, spread over the “big three” in Detroit, which for the first time faced a strike at the same time.
Shawn Fain, president of the United Auto Workers union, reported Friday that “serious moves” in negotiations with Stellantis and General Motors to reach new wage agreements.
“I am happy to report that, in the last 24 hours, we have seen serious movements Stellar y GM”Fain noted last week. Ford “continues to admit that they cannot give us what we ask for.” he added.
But on Monday morning the union introduced continuous “gaps” of the latest offers from Stellantis (Chrysler, Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Peugeot).
“Although it has the highest turnover and highest profit (in North America and the world), the largest operating margin, and the largest liquidity, Stellantis is behind Ford and GM about the demands of the employees and the UAW,” promoted by the union.
The group presented the “worst offer” in terms of salary evolution, wages of temporary worker,s and measures to adapt to the evolution of the cost of living, the union indicated.
