The US Congress approved the budget extension until March

The Senate approved the budget and sent it to the House of Representatives

The Congress of the United States approved this Thursday, in an unusual day due to the speed of the debate in both chambers, a temporary law to fund federal agencies for another six weeks, to avoid partial Government shutdown.

Against the clock to allow it before tomorrow, The House of Representatives agreed in a rare show of unity to keep the lights on until March 1just a few hours after the initiative was voted by the Senate.

With money for several departments running out after 11:59 p.m. tomorrow, Congress approved the text that must be sent to President Joe Biden’s desk for promulgation before the deadline.

Otherwise, thousands of officers, including thousands of air traffic controllers, will be forced to undergo technical layoffs.

The US Congress is under pressure to avoid the famous partial “shutdown” of the government, especially considering that a snowstorm could reach Washington tomorrow and the House of Representatives has already canceled the votes scheduled for that day.

The law will allow the government to continue funding state spending until early March, which will give Congress time to agree on a broader budget and spending details.

The repeated inability of Congress to approve a budget for the fiscal year (which began four months ago) forced funding measures to be adopted in short periods to avoid budget paralysis.

The text voted on today is the subject of bitter negotiations between the Republicans, who have a majority in the lower house, and the Democrats, who have a majority in the Senate.
