This Sunday, the United States Government congratulated far-right Javier Milei on his victory in the presidential election in Argentina and invited him to work together on the economy, human rights, democracy and the fight against the climate crisis.
“Congratulations to Javier Milei and the Argentine people! We look forward to working together on shared priorities that will benefit the people of our two countries,” the United States ambassador to Argentina, Marc Stanley, published in the social networks.
The diplomat cited as possible areas of cooperation “the protection of human rights and democracy, the fight against climate change, improving the investment climate and investing in the middle class.”
Afterwards, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan joined in the congratulations and reiterated the United States’ commitment to human rights.
“I congratulate Javier Milei on his election as president of Argentina and the people of Argentina for holding free and fair elections,” said the adviser to the US president, Joe Biden.
“We look forward to continuing to build our strong bilateral relationship based on our shared commitment to human rights, democratic values and transparency,” he added.
According to the analysis of the National Electoral Directorate, with 98% of the tables counted, Milei won the election with 56% of the votes (14,319,272 votes) against the current Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, with 44% ( 11,384,014 votes).
Because of the overwhelming victory predicted, Massa appeared before the official results were announced to acknowledge the victory of Milei, who will take over the Presidency of Argentina on December 10.
The ultra-liberal proposed the dollarization of the country to solve Argentina’s battered economy, he does not believe in climate change and denies the 30,000 who disappeared during the military dictatorship (1976-1983).
The former President of the United States Donald Trump (2017-2021) congratulated Milei, an admirer of the Republican, and declared himself “proud” of his victory.
“Congratulations to Javier Milei for a good election as president of Argentina. The whole world is watching you! “I am very proud of you,” Trump declared on social media.
Also the magnate Elon Musk, owner of X (formerly Twitter), congratulated Milei’s victory from the United States and predicted that “Argentina will have progress ahead.”
