The is huge on e-commerce eBay will pay $59 million as part of a settlement with the United States Department of Justice for selling thousands of printing machines on its platform.
Machines can be used to manufacture fake pills that look just like the prescription ones but may contain ingredients like fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid fueling the worst overdose crisis in American history.
The company has not verified the identities of buyers nor did he maintain the records required by law, and many people who bought the machines on eBay have been charged with illegal trafficking in pills, the Justice Department said.
EBay, which provides a platform for people to sell their products, said it has reached settlement to avoid a great argument but maintained that he had not broken the law.
