The US shot down Houthi and Iranian drones and attacked a control station in Yemen

US forces shot down 10 drones and a missile launched by Houthi rebels in Yemen, attacked a control station in that country, and destroyed three Iranian drones, its military said Wednesday.

Later, the British maritime safety agency UKMTO reported an explosion near a ship off the coast of Yemen, where attacks by Houte rebels against merchant shipping are increasing.

The explosion occurred 57 nautical miles west of city of HodeidaThe UKMTO said, adding that “the vessel and crew are safe and on their way to the next port of call.”

The Hute rebels began launching attacks against maritime traffic in the Red Sea in November, in theory only against ships linked to Israel, in response to the war in the Gaza Strip.

US and British forces responded to the bombings against Houthi positions in Yemen, which led these rebels to declare the interests of these two countries as targets.

The Central Command of the United States (Centcom) said in a statement that its forces attacked on Thursday morning in Yemen a “drone ground control hut station and 10 unidirectional drones” that “presented an imminent threat to merchant ships and US Navy ships in the region.”

The same organization previously announced that the warship USS Carney shot down an anti-ship ballistic missile fired by Houtes and three Iranian drones below one time difference.

Centcom did not specify whether the downed Iranian drones were attack or surveillance drones.

US forces also destroyed a surface-to-air missile “prepared for launch” on Wednesday in “Houte-controlled areas of Yemen,” Centcom said.

Despite the actions of Washington and its allies, the Hute rebels continued their attacks on the Red Sea and Adam’s Gulf, which harmed global maritime traffic.

Early Thursday in Yemen, the maritime security company Ambrey reported that a merchant ship hit the shore of that country by a missile.

“Ship reported a blast” on board.

The Hutus also claimed to launch more missiles against the American destroyer USS Gravely.

Centcom reported that this ship neutralized a missile launched “from areas of Yemen controlled by the Houtes towards the Red Sea.”
