“The biggest reason for buying a car in 2023 will be the label.” This opinion, from the commercial manager of a brand operating in Spain, gives us an idea of the importance that this environmental factor has now… and more that it will have in the coming months.
If we will have to buy a new car, we will have to analyze which models with the ECO label are suitable for us for the space or price we need, but… What if we have no obligation or resources to change cars?
LPG = ECO label transform
It is a solution (although not for all vehicles) that many users in Spain have explored in the past year. To obtain the ECO label, the solution is relatively simple and not too expensive… converting the car to use it with LPG.
LPG fuel is cheaper than gasoline, up to 40%
In fact, in 2022 transformations of vehicles burning liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) are increasing by 36.5% each year, according to data from the Association of Vehicle Transformers (Astrave). 3,512 drivers have used this strategy to convert their cars into ECO.
Toyota and Dacia are the most transformed
By brands, Toyota and Dacia have carried out the most transformations in 2022, although it has an explanation. Both brands dominate the taxi market and this sector is where they belong
From Astrave, however, private drivers are encouraged to consider this option, and even more so before 2023, in which the most famous Low Emission Zones will be developed in municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants, where traffic restrictions can limit movement. chocolate cars
What cars can be changed and what advantages does it have?
Astrave explains which vehicles can choose with Liquefied Petroleum Gas: “All gasoline cars that have been registered since 2006 and comply with the Euro 4 standard (Euro 6 is in force), can obtain the ECO label when converting to LPG”.
Last year, changes in LPG in Spain increased by 36.5%.
The change is about the same as the premium for a new LPG car compared to the gasoline-only equivalent, which runs between 1,500 and 2,000 euros. The only disadvantage is that we will have less time to amortize the transformation… although the difference in price means gasoline and LPG, which, as soon as we use the car, we will be able to use the transformation.
In addition to the convenient access to ZBEs that can limit the circulation to NIL or ECO vehicles, this is not the only advantage of LPG, gasoline fuel is much cheaper (up to 40% cheaper, according to the Association). “LPG is necessary to move the transition technology to the decarbonisation mission proposed by the European Union”, explains the president of Astrave, Javier Navarro.
However, the manager believes that Spanish drivers are not fully aware of the advantages and possibilities of LPG: “There is a greater responsibility of the Spanish administration on the part of drivers to make them aware of the existence of good mobile vehicles such as gasoline and diesel,” he says.
