The Welfare Committee increases housing opportunities

To invest in the construction of 50 houses with the direct participation of future owners, 1.9 million dollars were given to the Welfare Committee, announced Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva.

The representative of Arizona District 7 said that these are funds from the Rural Development Agency of the United States Department of Agriculture, which will be used to provide technical and supervisory assistance in recruiting families, completing loan applications, and managing the construction.

“This is a critical investment that will provide people with much-needed affordable housing in the border region,” said Rep. Grijalva, who added that “rural housing is the key for individuals and families to provide stability, grow our economy, and build community connections.”

He said he was proud to support this federal funding and suggested that he would continue to support opportunities to provide families with affordable housing in our region.

For his part, Tony Reyes, the Executive Director of the Bienestar Committee, explained that the financing gives them the opportunity to continue impacting the lives of low-income families through the USDA 523 Technical Assistance Grant for Mutual Self-Help.

“We want to recognize the efforts of Congressman Raúl Grijalva, Senator Mark Kelly, and Senator Kyrsten Sinema in advocating for Arizona’s rural communities,” he said, adding “a special thank you to USDA AZ State Director Charlene Fernández and his team for all the confidence and support given to the Committee.”
