The White House predicted disastrous consequences for Ukraine without its support

A potential stoppage of Washington’s military support to Kyiv will harm prospects for aid to Ukraine from European countries, the strategic communications coordinator of the US National Security Council, John Kirby, said on Monday.

“Our allies and partners are watching closely what we’ve done here, because American leadership has been instrumental in supporting Ukraine,” the senior official said.

In his words, Washington “leads the way not only in contributions, but also in coordinating contributions from other countries” to the government of Ukraine. Also, Kirby admits that it is “absolutely possible” that some countries will stop funding and arming Kiev.

“We have to expect that some of our allies and partners will have to make different decisions if they see that American leadership has weakened here or that the United States has stopped supporting Ukraine,” he reiterated, warning that such a development could lead to “potentially disastrous consequences. for Ukraine.”

“Ukraine cannot survive without US help.”

Previously, the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky acknowledged that “Ukraine cannot survive without the help of the US.” At the same time, he regrets that the support of the West has recently decreased, despite the fact that during his meetings with his allies, they hug him, tell him that he is very strong and call him “leader in the free world.”

“If the Ukrainian people didn’t have a president like that (…) we could have lost half of Europe (…). And we have to give them everything we have,” the president was quoted as saying the words of Western leaders. But, after saying that, they cut the aid, he criticized. “They helped us a lot to maintain ourselves and I think they will help us win more,” concluded Zelensky.

The military and financial aid that Ukraine regularly receives from Western allies has dropped sharply since the failure of the counter-offensive launched in June. Thus, a US bill seeking to allocate more than $61 billion in Kyiv aid remains blocked in the Senate.
