The workshop held on the new standards for the accreditation of the island’s hospitals during 2024 – Metro Puerto Rico

The Association of Hospitals of Puerto Rico (AHPR) held a workshop-seminar to update the information processes and requirements required for the accreditation of hospital institutions in the country, which will be implemented on January 1, 2024.

The seminar coordinated by the education division of the entity was able to present as speakers James Granna (Associate Director of the Standards Interpretation Group of The Joint Commission), Robert Campbell (Director of the Clinical Standards Interpretation Group and Director of Medication Management of The Joint Commission), Kathryn Petrovic (Director of the Department of Standards and Methods in the Division of Quality in Medical Services of The Joint Commission).

“A few days before the start of the next year 2024 and with countless changes and new requirements that must be met by hospital institutions to achieve accreditation from the United States Joint Commission (The Joint Commission), we celebrate this great event that was able to unite. most of the hospitals in the country. This allows us to update all the compliance laws so that a hospital can continue to be approved from the accrediting agency. For hospitals, it is a priority to work with the details that allow them to know themselves the update of the requirements of the Joint Commission,” said Mr. Pedro González, executive vice president of AHPR, who added that most of the country’s hospital institutions follow the quality standards required by the Accreditation Commission.

The lawyer reported that on this occasion the Joint Commission brought as the main topics the issue of scoring trends in the survey or evaluation conducted by that agency, where it was noted that the results of the evaluations in Puerto Rico correspond to those in the United States United in most of the criteria.

During the workshop, the issue of the care environment, challenges and trends in patient safety, implementation of strategies for evaluating equity in medical care, the priority issue of drugs that aggravate of the new requirements, the discussed, ending the discussion with the effort to sustain the nature of a hospital institution.

“This workshop and the meeting of senior officials of the Joint Commission, is very important because during the seminar it is possible to update the information that each medical entity must have on the standards required for the accreditation of hospitals in American Nation and Puerto Rico. There is certainly a lot of new information and other information that can be updated, which must be known to comply with the standards of the Joint Commission,” concluded González.
