As the world begins to accept the advent of artificial intelligence in the classroom, after eleven or twelve years of education, our students end up not developing the expected foundational levels of reading comprehension.
Today, two new and very serious threats have been added to Costa Rica’s poor education outcomes:
- The violence that lived on the streets entered the classrooms.
- The budget, that is, the investment that the country allocates for education, is reduced, and even the finances of police officers are cut.
I am the daughter of a country where public education was of quality and we took pride in the fact that we have more teachers than police officers while we play in the streets and parks without any danger. Today, community life is wracked by insecurity, and the best defense against it, education, does not go away.

It is true that many problems are piling up, but on the contrary the responsible officers are not exempted from working hard in formulating solution proposals in the shortest possible time.
The origin of the solution, as has been said, is achieved by uniting, not dividing. Linking abilities and desires in places of mutual respect, fostering synergy, fostering the participation of people, organizations and communities.
New problems arise in their place: inconsistent words dominate and concrete, well-planned, well-established proposals do not reach.
