Story Highlights
- The mercury reached 50 degrees Celsius in Seville
- Category of heatwave divided, names given
For the first time in the world, heatwave i.e. intense heat wave has been named. The name of the heatwave is Zoe. The city of Seville in Spain is badly troubled by this heatwave. In the city of Seville, the temperature reached 50 degrees Celsius this week because of Zoe. The good thing is that Spain and Seville have excellent weather reporting systems. Therefore, when people got information about the arrival of summer at the right time, people made preparations.

These days all European countries including Spain are facing terrible heat. Spain’s local meteorological department has divided heatwaves into three categories. The first category is the lowest level heatwave and the third highest heatwave. Zoe is the third category of heatwave. The third category is formed when the temperature reaches above 43 degrees Celsius. This information has been given by a meteorological project named ProMETRO Sevilla.

Zoe is not the only name. The names of the next heatwaves in the third category have also been named. These are – Yago, Xenia, Wenceslao and Vega. Prometio Sevilla was launched only last month. Half a dozen Spanish organizations are working in this project. In which universities, meteorological technical centers, government meteorological departments etc. are associated.

Seville Mayor Antonio Munoz said that we are the first in the world to designate a heatwave and name it. Through this, we will be able to collect accurate information about weather related disasters. Will be able to inform people. Also, you will be able to understand the effects of climate change. It is understood from this that humans should reduce emissions. We want to make Seville the world’s zero-carbon city. Want to save from the rising heat.

The city of Seville is in the Andalusia region of Spain. Which is the hottest region of Spain. This area is located near the sea and here the effect of winter is less. Due to climate change in Spain, the temperature is continuously increasing. The average temperature of the country has increased by 1.7 degrees Celsius since the year 2020. which is dangerous. The ever-increasing heat also affects human health. Heat strokes come. Dehydration occurs. Problems related to the brain and heart start to arise.
