The Xunta has completed the installation of PET equipment

Therefore, in the field of Nuclear Medicine, PET tomographic equipment was acquired for the hospital centers of Lugo and Ourense, which will allow a more accurate diagnosis of oncological or neurology procedures.

The arrival of PET technology at Ourense Hospital required the design and construction of a new Nuclear Medicine area for this hospital center. This work has completed the PET spaces and will continue in 2024 with the place where the two gamma cameras that were also acquired by the Xunta this year and which are temporarily installed on the ground floor of the Santa María Madre building will be installed.

Therefore, the Xunta de Galicia added the European Next Generation funds that allowed the acquisition of the PET (1.5 million) and the two gamma cameras (1.4 million) with the implementation of a work amounting to 2.8 million euros . Therefore, once the work and installation of this equipment is finished, the Xunta will invest 5.7 million euros in this new Nuclear Medicine service.

30 million euros for the hospital in Ourense in 2024

During the visit, the head of Galician Health announced that the Xunta de Galicia budget project for the year 2024 has a financial allocation of almost 30 million euros for the Ourense hospital complex.

Specifically, he specified that “with these funds we will continue the work on the new hospitalization and maternal-child construction, we will finish this area of ​​nuclear medicine, we will install a new intraoperative accelerator, and we will carry out reforms in the cardiology and interventional radiology areas, where the hemodynamics and neuroradiology equipment acquired this year will have their final location.

In this way, and together with the work on the new ICU and the repair of other equipment, in the current term the Galician Government has invested more than 80 million euros in the Ourense University Hospital Complex, an amount that affects the economy of Galician commitment.
