The Minister of Health, Julio García Comesaña, emphasized the importance of physiotherapy for Sergas. For this reason, within the Galician Primary Care Plan 2019-2021, in the last three years the Xunta has created 40 physiotherapy places, and last year the creation of 13 new places was expanded in the budgets. That is, in recent years this category has been strengthened with more than 50 places in health centers. In addition, -the councilor said-, “at the beginning of this year a strengthening process was carried out by calling for 84 permanent positions.”
The head of Sergas inaugurated today, at the Álvaro Cunqueiro Hospital, the III Conference of the Galician Society of Physiotherapists (SOGAFI), in an event that was also attended by the manager of the health area, Javier Puente Prieto, and where the head of the health portfolio emphasizes the importance of this discipline, which is shown by its excellent complement for many diseases, “both to cure them and to improve the quality of life of patients.”
The Xunta wants to emphasize that this discipline is appropriate for Sergas and primary care. In this regard, the Galician Government launched the new integrated management system, XIDE, active in 70% of Galician health centers, which allows to optimize and regulate access to appointments in the first level of care and management of the patient, if requested, by the physiotherapist , without the intervention of another professional.
The councilor said that, from his department, “the work is now being done to homogenize the activity of physiotherapy agendas and establish a set of standards that govern the quality standards of this discipline.”
Comesaña emphasized that the Health recently established a pilot project at the Virgen Peregrina health center in Pontevedra, which allows consultation between family medicine and physiotherapy professionals, that is, the shared process of monitoring a patient between the doctor is digitized.family and physiotherapist.
Comesaña ended his speech by emphasizing that “from the Xunta we will continue to work so that professionals in this discipline, thanks to their work and knowledge, will continue to be a fundamental part of the proper functioning of Sergas.”
